About Hagalund
What are the main landmarks in Hagalund?
Eight light-blue blocks, each 100 metres long and 14 storeys high and finished in 1973, stand in two rows either side of Hagalundsgatan, with traffic-free yards between them and footbridges over the street linking the two sides. Locals call them Blåkulla. They can be seen from the E4 into Stockholm.
Olle Olsson's house in Gamla Hagalund is now the Olle Olsson Hagalund museum, and Hagalunds kyrka, the Sadelmakare Öbergs museum, and the Hagalunds vattentorn are here too.
What is the history of Hagalund?
Hagalund was founded as a suburb of Stockholm along the northern main line, and building began around 1890 on land of the Övre Frösunda estate. Craftsmen bought the plots. They built timber houses with fretwork verandas.
From 29 September 1899 Nya Hagalund was a municipal community, until it joined the new town of Solna in 1943. In the 1960s Solna decided to clear the old houses, which the painter Olle Olsson, who signed his canvases Olle Olsson Hagalund, had made famous. Siemens-Elema developed the first pacemaker in the Hagalund workplace area in 1958.
Where is Hagalund?
Hagalund lies centrally in Solna, about a kilometre from Solna centrum. It borders Järva to the north, Haga to the east, and Råsunda and Skytteholm to the west, and takes in all the ground framed by Solnavägen and Frösundaleden. Gamla Hagalund, the few surviving old houses, lies in its east, and Haga Palace is near.
