Beylikdüzü sells space rather than history. The district spreads along the European side with the Sea of Marmara at its foot, and a room here means wide streets, open ground and a shore that the packed inner quarters cannot match. Sea air is the reason.
Anyone choosing between this district and Esenyurt inland is really choosing whether the water matters, because in most other respects the two read alike. Museums fill the days between. The Museum of World Costumes, the Istanbul Robot Museum, the Çikolata Müzesi, the Haluk Perk Müzesi and the İmzalı ve Birinci Baskı Kitaplar Müzesi are all inside the district, an unusual concentration for an outer suburb, and the Beylikdüzü Nostalji Müzesi rounds the set out.
Chocolate and robots in one afternoon. Rain makes them useful. Neighbours extend the list further: Büyükçekmece keeps the ancient ruins of the Büyükçekmece Church to the west, Küçükçekmece holds Bathonea and the Küçükçekmece Aya Yorgi Kilisesi, and the Galatasaray Küçükçekmece Rowing Center works the water between them.
Avcılar sits to the east. A stay towards that side shortens the run into the city while leaving the Marmara shore within reach.

The Endem TV Tower marks the district from a distance. Closer in, the Beylikdüzü Nostalji Müzesi, the Museum of World Costumes and the Istanbul Robot Museum share a small area with the Çikolata Müzesi, the Haluk Perk Müzesi and the İmzalı ve Birinci Baskı Kitaplar Müzesi. The Cyprus Monument stands nearby.
Older ground lies either side: the ancient ruins of the Büyükçekmece Church, Bathonea, and the Florya Atatürk Marine Mansion further along the Marmara shore.
What is the history of Beylikdüzü?
The oldest history around Beylikdüzü is not its own. Bathonea lies over towards Küçükçekmece, the ancient ruins of the Büyükçekmece Church stand to the west, and both belong to a coastline that carried settlements long before this district had a name. Beylikdüzü itself is modern.
It became a municipality and district of İstanbul Province as the city expanded along the European side, and its layout reflects that late arrival rather than any older core. Churches record the older mix. The Küçükçekmece Aya Yorgi Kilisesi survives from a community that predates the suburbs, and the ruined Büyükçekmece Church is older still.
Shoreline history is different again. The Florya Atatürk Marine Mansion stands further along the same Marmara coast, tied to Atatürk by its name, and the Cyprus Monument is a later marker on the same side of the city. Museums came last of all.
The Beylikdüzü Nostalji Müzesi, the Museum of World Costumes, the Haluk Perk Müzesi and the İmzalı ve Birinci Baskı Kitaplar Müzesi are recent additions rather than inheritances from any earlier settlement, which is why a district with almost no visible past ended up with so many places to look at.
Where is Beylikdüzü?
Beylikdüzü runs down to the Sea of Marmara. Esenyurt lies to its north, Büyükçekmece to its west and Avcılar to its east, which leaves the water as the only edge not shared with another district. The ground is open by İstanbul standards.
Room for that came from developing late, well outside the historic core on the European side.
What is the climate of Beylikdüzü?
The Sea of Marmara does the moderating here. Water along the southern edge of Beylikdüzü takes the edge off both ends of the year, so the district runs milder than ground further inland behind Esenyurt. A breeze runs in off the Marmara.
Summer evenings on the shore side stay usable when the inner quarters of İstanbul are still radiating the heat of the day.
How do you get to Beylikdüzü?
Beylikdüzü is reached across the European side. The district sits well out from the historic core, with Avcılar between it and the city and Büyükçekmece beyond it, so an arrival from the centre is a long run through the outer suburbs. Esenyurt lies inland to the north.
The Sea of Marmara closes the southern side, which means everything approaching Beylikdüzü comes from the east, the west or over the ground behind it.
