Datong keeps most of its lodgings around Dihua Street and the Ningxia Night Market, where narrow blocks of Dadaocheng put temples, tea shops, and river walks within a short stroll. The northern edge near Daqiaotou station trades that bustle for quieter nights beside the Confucius and Bao'an temples.

What are the main landmarks in Datong District?
Dihua Street anchors the district, its Qing- and Japanese-era shophouses running north from the Xiahai City God Temple and the covered Yongle Market. The Ama Museum sits among them, recording the wartime women of Taiwan behind a restored Dadaocheng facade, while the Taiwan New Cultural Movement Memorial Hall marks the reformers who once met here. Northward stand the Taipei Confucius Temple and Bao'an Temple in Dalongdong.
Down by the water, the Customs Museum and Dadaocheng Wharf recall the river trade. Old brick meets fresh paint.
What is the history of Datong District?
Traders settled Twatutia along the Tamsui River in the mid-nineteenth century, and after the port opened for foreign commerce the wharves of Dadaocheng became the centre of Taiwan's tea and camphor exports. Foreign firms lined the water. Dihua Street grew rich on that trade, and its merchant houses still carry the ornate facades of the boom years.
The district took the name Datong in 1946. Tea money built these lanes.
Where is Datong District?
Datong lies on the east bank of the Tamsui River in the Taipei Basin, a low, dense quarter of old shophouse blocks stretching from Dadaocheng north into Dalongdong.
