Museums define Wanhua District. What is the history of Wanhua District?
The quarter began as Bangka, one of the earliest settled parts of Taipei, its trade lanes laid out long before the modern city took shape around them. The name came first. In 1990 the older wards were merged and formally constituted as Wanhua District, folding the historic Bangka streets into a single administrative unit of Taipei.
The Bangka Presbyterian Church survives from the settlement's church-building years, a fixed marker of the district's deep street grid.
