What is the history of Songshan District?
Songshan took its present shape in 1946. The district originally reached far to the south, but in 1990 the authorities carved off that half to form the neighbouring Xinyi District, leaving Songshan the compact riverside quarter that now fronts the airport. Ciyou Temple, founded in 1753 beside the old wharf, records how trade along the water long predated the runways and towers.
