Xinyi District, Taipei — Area Guide & Where to Stay
Where to stay in Xinyi District
The right area depends on your trip — here's what each neighbourhood is best for.
This is where visitors to Taipei sleep. Xinyi District holds the city's densest cluster of hotels, and towers rise on every side of the plaza fronting the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, within a short walk of shopping halls and the Taipei Dome. Beds run from tall business towers to smaller rooms near the Taiwan Design Museum.
You want the centre of things.
About Xinyi District
What are the main landmarks in Xinyi District?
The Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall anchors Xinyi District. Its broad hall and lawns open toward the towers, and around them stand the art houses that give the quarter its cultural weight: the Fubon Art Museum, the Aurora Art Museum, and the Taiwan Design Museum. The Taipei Dome rises nearby.
Sport has its own address at the Taipei Xinyi Sports Center.
What is the history of Xinyi District?
Xinyi District rose late in Taipei's story. Once quieter ground on the eastern side of the city, it was laid out as a planned commercial centre, and the opening of the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall drew the first crowds to what had been open land. Building followed fast.
The Taipei Dome and the Fubon Art Museum joined a skyline that keeps climbing.
Where is Xinyi District?
Xinyi District lies on the eastern side of Taipei, a subtropical basin quarter of towers set around the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall and the Taipei Dome.
