The Illinois Aviation Museum at Bolingbrook and Cypress Cove Family Aquatic Park anchor one side of the built-up area, and anyone travelling with children wants to be near them rather than out by the county line. Lemont changes the character. The Forge: Lemont Quarries Adventure Park, the Lithuanian Museum of Art, and the National Shrine of St Therese lie in that direction, and a base pointed that way gives a day quite unlike the subdivisions of Will County.
Chicago is the other pull. A visitor whose plans are really about the city should sleep in Chicago itself, since what Bolingbrook offers is the road rather than closeness to anything downtown, and the drive back out past the Des Plaines River eats an evening either way. Golfers do better staying close.
Cog Hill Golf & Country Club is the one draw here that rewards a room in the village over a room in the city.

The Gateway Wetlands came first. Bolingbrook was laid out as a new town on that ground in the 1960s, west of the Des Plaines River, on land that had carried no village of its own before the plan arrived. Growth came fast.
Through the 1980s and 1990s the subdivisions spread across both the Will County and DuPage County sides of the line, until the place stood second only to Joliet among the towns of Will County.
