The warehouses and industrial buildings that hold the galleries went up for freight and manufacture, and their conversion turned the Crossroads Arts District into the main gallery quarter of Kansas City. Artists took the cheap floors along 19th Street first. The restaurants, the design studios, and the advertising work followed them into the same blocks around 19th Street.
