Hallmark Cards set its base on this ground, and the Halls department store it owns and operates became the anchor that the rest of the shopping center grew around. Residences and retail filled the blocks between. Entertainment venues and restaurants came with them, the American Restaurant among them.
Two of Kansas City's largest law firms, Shook, Hardy & Bacon and Lathrop GPM, keep their headquarters inside the neighbourhood.
