What are the main landmarks in Waldo?

Four names make the roll. St. Andrew's Episcopal Church is the only one of them raised for a congregation, and the three that remain were built as households, so the neighbourhood's listed fabric is domestic before it is anything else. The Alexander Majors House carries the best-known of those family names.

Beside it sit the Burnette-Berry House and the Walter E. Bixby House, both of them single addresses inside the box that Gregory Boulevard and 85th Street close off.

What is the history of Waldo?

Kansas City annexed Waldo in 1909. The neighbourhood had been its own settlement before that, and the record keeps returning to how much of the separate character survived the boundary change, right down to the way the streets between Troost Avenue and State Line still read as a place apart. Two of the houses hold the older thread.
