What are the main landmarks in Hospital Hill?

Teaching hospitals stand in for monuments on this slope. The University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine holds the high ground between Gillham Road and Troost Avenue, and clinical buildings rather than civic ones set the scale of every block on the slope. The museums begin west of Gillham Road.

Science City at Union Station and the National World War I Memorial stand on that side, while the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum and the American Jazz Museum sit north-east beyond Troost Avenue.

What is the history of Hospital Hill?

Public hospitals have stood on this rise since 1870, and the neighbourhood between 22nd Street and 25th Street took both its shape and its plain name from the buildings that filled the slope. New wards went up beside them. The University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine was established alongside them, which drew students and teaching staff onto ground that had grown up around treatment alone.
