Hyde Park grew as an address where owners put their names on the door. The protected-building record reads as a roll of those first families, the Reverend Nathan Scarritt Home, the Judge Louis Gates House, the Norman Tromanhauser House, the William Baker and Mary Knight House, each one still known by the people who raised it. Congregations followed.
Westminster Congregational Church and the First Swedish Baptist Church put up buildings among the houses, and the second name records the Swedish congregation that founded it.
