Names cause the trouble here. Benton Park and Benton Place are separate things, the first a neighbourhood on the south side of St. Louis and the second a private street inside Lafayette Square, and the written record goes out of its way to say so. The naming is better documented than the founding.

Where is Benton Park?
Gravois Avenue closes the northern edge and Cherokee Street the southern, with Jefferson Avenue west and I-55 east. Soulard begins past that eastern line.
