Two burial grounds anchor the western edge. Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery and the Old Saint Marcus Cemetery both open onto Gravois Avenue, with St. Marcus Commemorative Park established next to the older ground in 1977. St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church stands at 7100 Morganford Road, founded in 1905 and counted the first Slovak Lutheran congregation west of the Mississippi.
Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church sits on Blow Street, and Joe Leisure Park opened in 2000 across sixteen acres.
What is the history of Boulevard Heights?
Morganford was the older name for this ground. Land east of Morganford Road formed the southern end of the Carondelet Commonfields, held before subdivision by Rosell M. Field, Chris Koeln and James Bowlin, and American and German settlers began cutting it into residential lots by the early 1870s. Grand Avenue built up first.
Several subdivisions stood there before 1910, but most of Boulevard Heights filled in only after the Second World War, and Immaculate Heart of Mary parish followed in 1951 under Reverend Joseph G. Hoelting.
