Not every neighbourhood fits every trip — here's what each one is good for.
Fountain Park runs residential from Delmar Boulevard north to Martin Luther King Drive, and the rooms that serve it sit in the Central West End across that southern line. Two blocks covers the gap. The Red and Blue MetroLink lines stop at Central West End station, 410 South Euclid Avenue, a little over a mile south of Delmar Boulevard, so a car is optional here.
If you came for the oval park and the bronze Martin Luther King Jr., take a Central West End bed and walk north in the morning.

What are the main landmarks in Fountain Park?
Fountain Park, the oval city park at the centre of the neighbourhood, is the only public landmark inside the four boundary streets, and a bronze Martin Luther King Jr. has stood on its west side since 1978. Euclid Avenue passes it. What visitors otherwise name in this part of the city lies outside: First Church of Christ, Scientist stands at 475 North Kingshighway Boulevard on the far side of Delmar Boulevard, the Saint Louis Chess Club sits at 4657 Maryland Avenue deeper into the Central West End, and the Missouri History Museum and the James S. McDonnell Planetarium are roughly two kilometres south-west in Forest Park.
What is the history of Fountain Park?
Fountain Park began as the Aubert Place subdivision, which John Lay laid out in 1857 and whose central ground he set aside that same year for a public park. The deed reached the city in 1889. Rudolph Edward Torrini's eleven-foot bronze of Martin Luther King Jr. was cast in Florence and unveiled on the park's west side in 1978 by Mayor James Conway.
On 16 May 2025 an EF3 tornado crossed the four boundary streets, and part of Centennial Christian Church came down with one person killed inside.
Where is Fountain Park?
Delmar Boulevard runs the southern edge of Fountain Park and marks where north St. Louis starts; Kingshighway Boulevard and Walton Avenue hold west and east.
