Fox Park was platted for flats and corner stores, never for hotels, so a stay here means an upper floor of a restored two-family house. The park is the middle of it. Hotel rooms sit downtown or in the Central West End, and the 10 Gravois-Lindell bus links both to the stop at Jefferson and Gravois.
Come if you want brick streets, a dog run, and Tower Grove East beginning one street west.

What are the main landmarks in Fox Park?
The park fills a block between Shenandoah Avenue and Victor Street, boxed by California Avenue and Ohio Avenue, with a ball diamond, a spray pad, and a fenced dog run. Volunteers planted its shade trees. The 300-foot spire of St. Francis de Sales Oratory rises a few blocks south-east, hard against Gravois Avenue, a Late Gothic Revival church finished in 1908 and called the Cathedral of South St. Louis.
Corner storefronts from the 1890s still hold the block ends.
What is the history of Fox Park?
German immigrant families took these blocks in the early 1880s, and enough of them worked as craftsmen that the two-family houses came out with Italianate and Second Empire ornament instead of plain brick fronts. The Fox Brothers held the ground first. Their millwork and wagon yard gave way to recreation under permit in 1917, and the city bought the parcel outright in 1931.
The tornado of 1896 destroyed the parish church rising on Ohio Avenue, and its replacement was not finished until 1908. The National Register took in the Fox Park Historic District in 1985.

Interstate 44 closes Fox Park to the north, Jefferson Avenue to the east, Nebraska Avenue to the west, and Gravois Avenue cuts the southern line.
