No hotel sign hangs on Hamilton Avenue. What Hamilton Heights rents instead is a room or a flat in one of the brick two- and four-family blocks along Ridge Avenue and Clara Avenue, put up for streetcar commuters and still standing. That suits you if the trip is family, a church service, or work at one of the Page Boulevard institutions.
The nearest hotels sit south of Delmar Boulevard. MetroBus 13 Union follows Union Boulevard down to the Central West End Transit Center.

What are the main landmarks in Hamilton Heights?
Hamilton Heights Park, 1.29 acres laid out in 2002, is the district's only public green. Better Family Life works out of 5415 Page Boulevard, and a YMCA branch at 5555 Page Boulevard keeps an indoor pool, a running track and a basketball court open to the blocks around it. Ford Elementary opened on Clara Avenue in 1964.
The post office on Hamilton Avenue carries the name of Gwen B. Giles, the first Black woman elected to the Missouri Senate.
What is the history of Hamilton Heights?
Spanish colonial survey lines still run under these blocks. The ground formed part of a land grant that passed to Baptiste La Fleur, and wagons bound from St. Louis to St. Charles crossed it on the St. Charles Road, the route now signed as Dr. Martin Luther King Drive. Subdivision began by the mid-1850s.
Brick two- and four-family flats filled the blocks between 1890 and 1920, and Hodiamont Avenue still shares its name with the last streetcar line the region ran, which quit in 1966.
