Princeton Heights holds no hotel of its own, so a stay here means a rented address on a bungalow street. The shops sit on the rim. Hampton Avenue on the west and Gravois Avenue on the south carry the storefronts, the bus stops, and the flats above them, and Gravois is the stretch of Missouri Route 30 that leaves the city.
Inside that rim the grid runs quiet, with Christy Park at the northeast corner and Our Lady of Sorrows on Rhodes Avenue near the middle. You come for the houses, not the sights.

Princeton Heights keeps its landmarks at the corners and along the rim. Christy Park holds the northeast angle on Christy Boulevard, ground opened in 1910 and named for William Tandy Christy, a businessman who founded a firebrick company. Our Lady of Sorrows stands in the middle of the grid on Rhodes Avenue with its school beside it, and Gateway Science Academy stands further south on the ground recorded as Gardenville School.
Gatewood Gardens Cemetery closes the south end on Gravois Avenue. The rest is house and street.
What is the history of Princeton Heights?
Princeton Heights was farmland known as Gardenville through the late nineteenth century. Gravois Avenue ran past the fields then as now, the old road southwest out of downtown St. Louis and, since 1922, Missouri Route 30. The name came from the deeds.
Princeton Place Subdivision supplied it as the farms were platted, and by the 1920s the fields had gone to blocks of bungalows, storybook houses, and American Foursquares. Christy Park was set aside in 1910, before most of them.
Where is Princeton Heights?
Princeton Heights runs from Hampton Avenue east to Christy Boulevard, bounded north by Eichelberger Street and south by Gravois Avenue in south St. Louis.
