Water does most of the bordering. Bergen Beach keeps no museums or monuments, and the features that matter are Jamaica Bay along the east, Paerdegat Basin at the northeast and Mill Basin to the south and west. Georgetown sits inside.
The Belt Parkway runs the eastern edge and carries the through traffic, which leaves the peninsula quiet in a way that little else in this part of Brooklyn manages.

Geography did the shaping here. Bergen Beach grew on a spit of ground pushed into Jamaica Bay, hemmed by Mill Basin on two sides, Flatlands to the northwest and Paerdegat Basin toward Canarsie, which kept it apart from the denser blocks of Brooklyn. Georgetown formed inside it.
