Middle Village, New York City — Area Guide & Where to Stay

Middle Village occupies the central section of Queens, walled by the Long Island Expressway, Woodhaven Boulevard, Cooper Avenue and Mount Olivet Cemetery.

About Middle Village

Where to stay in Middle Village

Each area has its own feel; here's who each one suits.

Woodhaven Boulevard is the eastern wall. Middle Village keeps no lodging quarter of its own, and the real distinction runs between the Metropolitan Avenue end, where the trapezoid around Mt. Olivet Crescent and Fresh Pond Road shades into Ridgewood, and the Long Island Expressway side facing the rest of Queens across the north. Rooms are thin either way.

Ridgewood is the nearer of the two larger neighbourhoods and already takes in part of that same disputed trapezoid, so a bed there is the closest thing to sleeping inside Middle Village.

About Middle Village

What are the main landmarks in Middle Village?

The neighbourhood keeps one memorial. The General Slocum Disaster Memorial is the single catalogued landmark inside the lines that the Long Island Expressway, Woodhaven Boulevard, Cooper Avenue and Mount Olivet Cemetery draw around Middle Village. Everything else is street.

Eliot Avenue, Metropolitan Avenue, Admiral Avenue, Fresh Pond Road and Mt. Olivet Crescent frame the small trapezoid at the western end, while the former LIRR Montauk Branch tracks run the southern boundary beside Cooper Avenue.

What is the history of Middle Village?

Middle Village's past leaves only a few marks. What Middle Village keeps of its past is a memorial and a railway: the General Slocum Disaster Memorial marks a disaster the neighbourhood chose to commemorate, and the former LIRR Montauk Branch tracks along Cooper Avenue belong to a line that no longer carries trains. Mount Olivet Cemetery closes the western side.

Even the outline has shifted, because the trapezoid between Fresh Pond Road and Mt. Olivet Crescent is counted into Middle Village by some and into Ridgewood by others.

Where is Middle Village?

Cooper Avenue closes the south. Middle Village holds the central section of Queens between the Long Island Expressway, Woodhaven Boulevard and Mount Olivet Cemetery.
