What is the history of Sunnyside?
The yard drew the northern line. Sunnyside Yard, a rail complex rather than a street, has kept Astoria on the far side of the neighborhood's northern boundary, and the tracks still fix where the neighborhood stops on that side. A road drew the southern one.
The Brooklyn-Queens Expressway forms part of the southern edge, with Newtown Creek and Maspeth beyond it, so Sunnyside ended up framed by works of engineering on both long sides. Sunnyside Garden Arena belongs to the older record of the place, one of three named sites inside a western Queens neighborhood otherwise given over to streets.
Where is Sunnyside?
Hunters Point and Long Island City close the western side, Woodside the eastern, and Newtown Creek runs along the southern boundary with Maspeth.
