The community is not one municipality.
Its sections sit inside Bristol Township, Falls Township, Middletown Township and Tullytown Borough, so an address given as Levittown may be governed from any of four town halls, which matters far more for paperwork than for a traveller's driving time. The Falls Township side carries the older record. Phineas Pemberton House and Sotcher Farmhouse predate the 1952 plan by generations, and rooms taken toward that end put a visitor nearer the surviving farm ground than the amusement gates.
Philadelphia is the other option. The metropolitan area reaches out into Bucks County, so anyone willing to trade a morning drive for a wider choice of rooms can base in the city instead. Philadelphia set the demand. The metropolitan area reached out into Bucks County, and the houses went up for households whose working lives were tied to it, which is the plain economic fact underneath the whole scheme.
