What are the main landmarks in Comuna 12?

The Museo Histórico Cornelio de Saavedra stands inside Parque Saavedra, keeping relics of the barrio's namesake and of the wider city. Trains still shape the district. Coghlan station, named for the Irish-Argentine engineer John Coghlan who ran the Mitre Railway extension here, anchors a barrio of low brick houses, and the Line B terminus at Villa Urquiza pulls the northern grid toward Avenida Triunvirato.

Green space matters as much as any single monument, with Parque Saavedra giving Comuna 12 its broad lung of lawns and sports fields. Rail and park define it.

What is the history of Comuna 12?

Railways made these barrios. The Mitre Railway drew its line north through open fields in the 1880s, and Coghlan grew around the station that engineer John Coghlan gave his name to after thirty hectares were sold off in 1887. Villa Urquiza took shape a little later, laid out over highland dug for dock reclamation and named by its Entre Ríos workers for their provincial hero Justo José de Urquiza.

The four barrios were bound together as Comuna 12 only much later. Farmland became suburb, then city.
