Early flyers have the airport just across the river. The Canada Line, opened in September 2009, runs under Cambie Street, with a surface station at Marine Drive that connects with buses. Most shops line the southern end of Granville Street, and businesses from drive-through restaurants to big-box stores sit along Marine Drive east of the Arthur Laing Bridge.
Traffic on both bridges often jams at peak hours.

About Marpole
What are the main landmarks in Marpole?
The Great Marpole Midden lies just west of the old Fraser Arms Hotel, now a strip mall, by the Arthur Laing Bridge. Joy Kogawa House is a 1912 bungalow. The author lived there as a child, and it is a setting of her novel Obasan; the Land Conservancy of British Columbia bought it in 2006, and writers in residence have stayed there since 2009.
Winona Park's three terraced fields look south over the North Arm of the Fraser to the Richmond delta.
What is the history of Marpole?
The Great Marpole Midden, a Musqueam village and burial site that the Musqueam date back at least four thousand years, has been a National Historic Site since 1933. Settlers came in the 1860s. They called the place Eburne Station.
Sawmills, shingle mills, and gravel firms followed the British Columbia Electric Railway's interurban line. Renamed after Richard Marpole in 1916, the area joined Vancouver in 1929, and the Oak Street Bridge of 1957 pulled trade east until the Arthur Laing Bridge of 1975 drew it back to Granville Street.
Where is Marpole?
Marpole lies on the southern edge of Vancouver, just north-east of Vancouver International Airport. The airport stands across the Fraser River on Sea Island in Richmond. Marpole's rough bounds are Angus Drive to the west, 57th Avenue to the north, Ontario Street to the east, and the river to the south, and the Oak Street Bridge leads to Highway 99 and the Arthur Laing Bridge to the airport.
