What is the history of Etobicoke?
Etobicoke grew from farm township into borough. The name was set in 1850 for the land between the Humber River and Etobicoke Creek, and the lakeshore villages of Mimico and New Toronto rose later around parish churches such as St. Leo's Roman Catholic Church. Then the borough dissolved.
In 1998 Etobicoke was amalgamated into the enlarged city of Toronto, ending its run as one of the six former Metropolitan Toronto boroughs.

Etobicoke fills the west end of Toronto between the Humber River and Etobicoke Creek, bounded by Lake Ontario to the south and reaching north to Vaughan at Steeles Avenue West, with Mississauga and Toronto Pearson International Airport along its western edge.
