What is the history of Nsele?
Nsele grew from farming and fishing ground on the fringe of Kinshasa. The Nsele River gave the commune both its name and its livelihood, and the riverside settlement at Kinkole built a reputation on the fish it pulled from Pool Malebo long before the city's roads reached this far east. Nsele filled out only by degrees.
As Kinshasa spread outward, the commune absorbed newcomers who kept one foot in the fields and one on the water.
