Fjords & Sea-Cliffs in Norway
The fjords cut Norway's whole western flank, from the Sognefjorden arms below Flåm to the deep, ice-free harbour water at Narvik in the north. Steep water, short horizons. Geiranger sits where its narrow fjord ends beneath the road hairpins of Ørnesvingen, Bergen works its harbour between Vestland's fjord arms, and Trondheim has kept the shore of the Trondheimsfjord since 997.

Common questions
How do I plan a route through fjord country?
Count the crossings first. Ferries replace bridges on many fjord roads, and the gap between two sailings can matter more than an hour of driving, so the day's route follows the timetable rather than the map. Stay on one arm and make day loops instead of pushing through.
