About Verkkosaari

Where to stay in Verkkosaari
The right area depends on your trip — here's what each neighbourhood is best for.
Verkkosaari is new ground to stay on: building began in the 2010s once the harbour left, and it runs from the south of the area northwards. Työpajankatu bounds it to the south, and Vanha talvitie to the west and north, dividing it from Hermanni. Restaurants and services come with the flats.
About Verkkosaari
What are the main landmarks in Verkkosaari?
Helsinki Vineyard, the Elävän kuvan museo and the sculpture Kuoleva Soturi are what the area names. Everything else here is recent. The Kalasataman keskus tower quarter rises just south.
What is the history of Verkkosaari?
The whole of Verkkosaari is former seabed, filled from the 1840s onward. The original shoreline ran where Hermannin rantatie is now, and Verkkosaari was two adjacent islands, Iso Verkkosaari to the north and Pieni Verkkosaari to the south. Sörnäinen harbour and small industry held the made ground for decades. Housing followed when the harbour functions moved out.
Where is Verkkosaari?
Verkkosaari forms part of Kalasatama with Sörnäistenniemi, Suvilahti and the Kalasataman keskus tower quarter, all of it inside the Sörnäinen district. Työpajankatu closes the south. Vanha talvitie separates it from Hermanni on the west and north.
