About Paris 15 Vaugirard

Where to stay in Paris 15 Vaugirard
Each area has its own feel; here's who each one suits.
Paris 15 Vaugirard splits into a river side and an inland one. The Front de Seine holds the larger hotels, and a high room in those towers looks north along the Seine and across to the Eiffel Tower rather than into a courtyard. Inland the buildings drop away.
You want Grenelle or the streets off the rue de Vaugirard if an ordinary Paris quarter suits you better than a skyline, and the eastern end if you leave early from Gare Montparnasse, one of the seven large Paris railway termini.
About Paris 15 Vaugirard
What are the main landmarks in Paris 15 Vaugirard?
The landmarks of Paris 15 Vaugirard are working buildings rather than monuments. The Front de Seine raises the only cluster of towers on this bank of the Seine, and the artificial île aux Cygnes carries a copy of the Statue of Liberty below the pont de Bir-Hakeim. One street crosses it end to end: the rue de Vaugirard, the longest inside the old walls of Paris.
Trade fills the rest. At the southern edge Paris Expo Porte de Versailles holds the exhibition halls, and the Parc Georges-Brassens keeps the pavilions of the horse market it replaced. The Eiffel Tower is not here: it stands over the boundary in the 7th arrondissement.
What is the history of Paris 15 Vaugirard?
Paris 15 Vaugirard did not exist until 1860. The arrondissement was assembled that year out of the annexed communes of Vaugirard and Grenelle, two settlements outside the old city that Paris absorbed whole, and its formal name is still the arrondissement de Vaugirard. Both names survived as quarters.
What came afterwards was building rather than monument-making, and the Tour Montparnasse went up between 1969 and 1973 as the tallest of it. The jardin Atlantique now roofs the tracks of Gare Montparnasse, and the Front de Seine covers the cleared riverbank.
Where is Paris 15 Vaugirard?
Paris 15 Vaugirard fills the southwest of the Left Bank, with the Seine and the 16th arrondissement north, the 14th arrondissement east, and Vanves south.
