Maninagar holds the rooms. This old railway suburb gathers most of the zone's hotels around Maninagar railway station and the lanes off Bhairavnath Road, keeping trains, markets and the Kankaria lakefront within an easy walk. Closer to the water, a few stays sit near the Kankaria Lake promenade and its zoo.
Out east, Vatva and Isanpur keep plainer beds near the industrial estates. Rooms here trade old-city polish for reach.

What are the main landmarks in Ahmedabad/South Zone?
Kankaria Lake anchors the zone. Sultan Qutb-ud-Din Ahmad Shah II finished this vast polygonal tank as Hauj-e-Qutb in 1451, ringing it with stone steps and a lakefront that now carries a zoo, a toy train and an evening promenade around the water. Pilgrims fill the Maninagar Swaminarayan temple off Bhairavnath Road nearby.
Beyond it, the mills and sheds of the Vatva industrial estate stretch away to the east, while Danilimda and Behrampura pack the older lanes running back toward the Sabarmati. The lake still draws the crowds.
What is the history of Ahmedabad/South Zone?
The lake came first. Sultan Qutb-ud-Din Ahmad Shah II had Kankaria dug as Hauj-e-Qutb in 1451, and for centuries villages such as Maninagar, Ghodasar and Vatva held fields and tanks across the Sabarmati from the walled city. The mills changed that.
Textile work drew labour east and the Vatva industrial estate followed, so lanes at Danilimda and Behrampura filled with workers while Maninagar grew around its railway station into the residential heart the South Zone was drawn to hold.

The South Zone spreads across south-eastern Ahmedabad, east of the Sabarmati River, running from Maninagar and the Kankaria Lake basin out through Danilimda, Ghodasar and Khokhra toward the Vatva and Isanpur industrial estates.
