What is the history of Zayouna?
Zayouna grew as a planned eastern quarter of Baghdad. Ground here carries a far older layer, for the mound of Tell al-Dhiba'i preserves the Old Babylonian town of Uzarzalulu, and the modern residential streets were laid across that plain as the capital pushed east beyond Karrada toward the New Baghdad district. The old town came first.

Where is Zayouna?
Zayouna occupies flat ground in eastern Baghdad. The quarter spreads across the plain east of the Tigris, set inland from the river within the New Baghdad district and bounded on the west by the older streets of Karrada, its blocks running out past Sindbad Land toward the city's eastern edge. Karrada lies west.
