What is the history of Yotsuya?
Yotsuya was a ward of the old Tokyo City in its own right, and in 1947 the reorganisation that cut 35 wards down to 23 folded it together with Ushigome and Yodobashi into Shinjuku. The name outlived the ward. Yodobashi came in as a suburban ward of Tokyo-fu, Ushigome from Tokyo City itself.
The Shinjuku Historical Museum sets out that merger, and the Fire Museum records a service whose own history runs through the same streets.
