About Elgeseter
What are the main landmarks in Elgeseter?
The main building of Elgeseter gård still stands on what is left of the farm, with the old building of the State Archives on the same property. Studentersamfundet, the student society, and the Teknobyen innovation centre are in Elgeseter. The Nidaros Cathedral, Rustkammeret and the NTNU University Museum stand toward the city centre (Midtbyen).
What is the history of Elgeseter?
Elgeseter takes its name from Elgeseter gård, which covered most of the area until 1796, when the farm began to be parcelled out. In 1819 it still held about 37.5 hectares, mostly farmed. Helgeseter, the medieval monastery of the Augustinian canons between the Nidelva and the present Klostergata, probably took its name from the farm, which was its main estate.
No trace of the monastery remains.
Where is Elgeseter?
Elgeseter lies just south of the city centre (Midtbyen), running from Elgeseter bru to Lerkendal stadion between Nidarø and Gløshaugen.
