About Strindheim
What are the main landmarks in Strindheim?
The parish church names the place. Strindheim kirke serves the neighbourhood, with the older Strinda kirke standing on the farm ground the district sprang from and Berg kirke set among the streets toward the university. Other markers ring the slope.
Tyholttårnet rises on the hill above, Lademoen kirke stands lower toward the harbour, the Rosenborgbanen line traces the eastern flat, and the climbing hall at Trondheim Klatresenter draws people into the quarter.
What is the history of Strindheim?
Strindheim takes its name from old Strinda. The district grew on the farm ground of the rural parish that Strinda kirke served east of Trondheim, before the city reached and absorbed it. Industry helped shape the quarter.
The Nidar confectionery factory and the football club Strindheim IL gave the neighbourhood its working character as housing filled the streets around Strindheim kirke and the area settled into the eastern Østbyen side of the city.
Where is Strindheim?
Strindheim lies on the south-eastern side of Trondheim within the city's Østbyen borough, on the lower ground below the Tyholt hill and inland of the Lademoen harbour quarter. It grew out of the old Strinda farm district that the city absorbed. The neighbourhood mixes its uses.
Housing sits beside the Nidar confectionery factory and the everyday streets of the eastern city, with the tower at Tyholttårnet rising on the slope just above and the centre lying out to the west.
