Not every neighbourhood fits every trip — here's what each one is good for.
Beds cluster near the Holy Trinity Cathedral, which is the practical base for anyone whose reason for coming is the churches, the almshouse or the works building the Sinitsyn company left behind. Shchyolkovo's centre is small enough to cross on foot. Rooms there keep the Intercession of the Theotokos church and the Monument to Soviet astronauts within an easy walk of one another, and the older streets around the works building are part of the same ground.
Shchyolkovo also serves as a change point for people heading further out across the north-eastern Moscow Region, so its rooms fill with travellers between places rather than at one. Zhegalovo and Amerevo sit apart from that centre. Both were villages before the city reached them, and each keeps the church that marks it, the St Nicholas church at Zhegalovo and the Znamenie church at Amerevo.
Beds thin out on those edges. Anyone unwilling to gamble on that can stay in Moscow instead and treat the whole of Shchyolkovsky District as a day out, since the distance in from the capital is small. The Klyazma River ties the two sides together, and a stay on either bank leaves the cathedral, the fence and gates and the chapel inside the same short walk.
