Where to stay in Voskresensk

Not every neighbourhood fits every trip — here's what each one is good for.

Beds sit in the town rather than at the estates. The centre grew around the works and its institutions, so the Khimik Palace of Culture, with its ensemble and the fence around it, is the landmark most rooms are near. Krivyakino Estate lies at the edge.

A stay there means the main house, the eastern and western wings and the park with ponds on the doorstep, and it means walking or riding in for anything else. The Moskva River is the other orientation. Anyone drawn by water rather than by buildings can take the bank as the reason for the trip, though the river's course through Voskresensky District matters more for the country around than for the town itself.

Fedino is further out. The Fedino Estate and the Church of Saint Seraphim of Sarov make the visit worth a car, and the Dubki estate with its main house is the third of the district's country houses. Church-minded visitors have three in town.

The Resurrection Church, Saint John Chrysostom Church and the Church of the Georgian Icon of the Mother of God are all inside Voskresensk, which makes a walking morning possible without leaving the streets.

About Voskresensk

Two estates and a works club sum the place up.

What is Voskresensk known for?

Krivyakino Estate holds a main house, two wings and a park with ponds on the edge of the built-up ground, while the Khimik Palace of Culture stands for the industrial century that made the town. The Moskva River gives Voskresensk its banks. Churches fill in the rest: the Resurrection Church, Saint John Chrysostom Church and the Church of the Georgian Icon of the Mother of God.

What are the main landmarks in Voskresensk?

Krivyakino Estate is the largest single sight. Its main house stands between an eastern wing and a western wing, with a park of ponds behind, and the Dubki estate keeps a main house of its own in the same district. Three churches serve the town.

The Resurrection Church shares the town's name, Saint John Chrysostom Church and the Church of the Georgian Icon of the Mother of God complete the set, and the Khimik Palace of Culture ensemble with its fence carries the industrial side.

What is the history of Voskresensk?

The estates predate the town. Krivyakino Estate was laid out with a main house, an eastern wing, a western wing and a park of ponds, and the Dubki estate stood on the same stretch of country with a main house of its own. Fedino belonged to that world too.

Its estate and the Church of Saint Seraphim of Sarov are what survive of it inside Voskresensky District, and the older parish churches of the area kept their congregations through the same centuries. The town dates itself to 1862. What followed was industrial, and the Khimik Palace of Culture is the clearest evidence: an ensemble with its own building and fence, put up for a workforce rather than for a landowner.

Voskresensk became the administrative centre of Voskresensky District. The Moskva River carried the traffic the works needed, and the town spread along its banks south-east of Moscow until it covered about 24 square kilometres. Churches came through both ages.

The Resurrection Church, Saint John Chrysostom Church and the Church of the Georgian Icon of the Mother of God still stand among the blocks, and Krivyakino Estate keeps its park at the edge of them.

Where is Voskresensk?

The Moskva River is the town's spine. Voskresensk covers about 24 square kilometres on its banks, south-east of Moscow, and Voskresensky District carries the same river on past Fedino and the country estates. The park at Krivyakino keeps ponds of its own.

Beyond the built-up streets the district is farm and estate country, which is why the Dubki estate and the Fedino Estate sit apart from anything urban.

What is the climate of Voskresensk?

The Moskva River freezes over in the coldest stretch, and the ponds in the Krivyakino park go the same way, which fixes the shape of a winter visit here. Summer is the estate season. Walking the park, the wings of the main house and the churches of Voskresensk is straightforward once the ground is dry, and the district roads out to Fedino are easier then as well.

Cold runs long inland.

How do you get to Voskresensk?

Moscow lies 88 kilometres off. The run south-east from the capital is the usual approach, and it ends on the banks of the Moskva River where the town has spread. Voskresensky District is wide.

Fedino, the Fedino Estate and the Dubki estate need their own leg of the journey, while Krivyakino Estate and the Khimik Palace of Culture are reachable on foot once inside Voskresensk.
