What is the history of Hornsbergs Strand?
The name comes from Stora Hornsberg, the estate by Ulvsundasjön that belonged to the riksråd Gustaf Horn, who put up a stately house and a Renaissance garden. A long avenue ran north to south up to the farm, just southwest of where Lindhagensgatan is now. Industry arrived around 1750: first a cotton factory, then a sugar works the nineteenth century called Hornsbergs sockerbruk.
Most of the buildings came down at the end of that century to make room for Stora Bryggeriet, which opened in 1892. The brewhouse remains.
