What are the main landmarks in Gagarin Raion?
Chersonesus lies east of the district's bays. The excavated Greek city on the shore is the one monument travellers cross the district for, and nothing along the bays competes with it. Kozacha Bay closes the western end, where beaches and camp grounds take up the ground behind the sand.
A yacht club and boat stations sit along the inlets. Fishing quays at Komyshova Bay run through the morning, unloading catch instead of passengers.
What is the history of Gagarin Raion?
The district was drawn in 1975, late in the city's growth westward, and it took the name of Yuri Gagarin, the cosmonaut, rather than a headland or a bay. Chersonesus is far older. Fish drove the local economy for much of the twentieth century, with catching and processing plants behind Komyshova Bay and electronics works further inland.
Colleges and institutes followed the housing blocks, and Hrushivka filled in as the bays turned industrial.

The Black Sea wraps Gagarin Raion on three sides, and the bays of Komyshova, Striletska and Kozacha cut its shoreline into headlands. Hrushivka holds the inland edge.
