Leninsky District, Sevastopol — Area Guide & Where to Stay

Leninsky District is the central district of Sevastopol, high ground above the harbour where St. Vladimir's Cathedral and Історичний бульвар stand.
About Leninsky District

Where to stay in Leninsky District
Where you base yourself shapes the visit — here's the character of each area.
Sevastopol keeps its hotel streets inside Leninsky District, so rooms and monuments share the same slope. The blocks below the Taurian Stairs put the harbour front, St. Vladimir's Cathedral and the Sevastopol Military History Museum-Reserve inside a single walk, which is why most visitors to the city sleep on this side rather than out past Gagarin Raion. Історичний бульвар is the quieter option. Take the boulevard side if you want the Monument to the 4th Bastion under your window and a shorter climb back.
About Leninsky District
What are the main landmarks in Leninsky District?
Monuments crowd this district. Історичний бульвар holds the Monument to the 4th Bastion and the Monument to Eduard Totleben in Sevastopol, both tied to the Siege of Sevastopol, while the Sevastopol Military History Museum-Reserve keeps that war's record across several sites. The hill carries St. Vladimir's Cathedral, with the Cathedral of Intercession of the Theotokos, the Church of All Saints and the Catholic Church of St. Clement in Sevastopol filling out the district's churches. The Taurian Stairs cut the slope.
Museum Underground Sevastopol and the Sevastopol Zoo pull a different crowd from the siege ground.
What is the history of Leninsky District?
The name dates from 1961, when the central district of Sevastopol took its present title. That ground is far older. The lines of the Siege of Sevastopol ran across this side of the city, and the Monument to the 4th Bastion, the Monument to Warriors of the Yazonovsky Redoubt and the Lazariev 23rd Battery memorial all mark positions from that defence.
Food production and light industry are the district's traditional trades, and among close to 500 businesses and institutions its central position leaves room for few large plants.
Where is Leninsky District?
Leninsky District holds 26 square kilometres between Quarantine Bay and Southern Bay, the Sevastopol Bay shore its northern edge. Balaklava Raion lies south.
