The campuses set the shape of a stay in San Marcos, since California State University San Marcos and Palomar College put the city's steadiest demand for rooms in one part of it. Wave Waterpark shifts that in summer. Families booking around the water park want the shorter drive to it, and the streets nearby also sit within reach of the Craftsmanship Museum and the older houses on the register.
Thomas House and Bandy House stand among them, along with Howell House on the same short register. Lake San Marcos is the odd option. The enclave is unincorporated ground inside the city's southwestern part, so a bed there is technically outside San Marcos while sitting well within its edges, which suits anyone wanting water and quiet over campus proximity.
