The Miami Circle anchors Brickell's oldest story. Cut into bedrock at the mouth of the Miami River, this ring of postholes marks a Tequesta settlement that predates any tower by centuries, and it sits within a small waterfront park where the district meets Biscayne Bay. Around it, glass condominiums and banking headquarters form the skyline that most visitors picture.

What is the history of Brickell?
Long before banks. The land that became Brickell held a Tequesta village at the Miami River mouth, the site later exposed as the Miami Circle. A trading family gave the district its name in the frontier decades that followed, and Brickell Avenue grew into a row of grand bayfront estates known as Millionaires' Row before towers replaced the mansions.
That estate era faded as Miami rose around it.
