What is the history of Walnut Park West?
Walnut Park West owes its shape to a boundary older than its houses. The straight diagonal along its northwest side is the St. Louis city limit, drawn in 1876 when a recount reversed a rejected ballot and cut the city loose from St. Louis County under a charter that tripled its area. Everything past that line went another way.
Jennings, the St. Louis County city on the far side, took its name from James Jennings, a farmer and merchant who came out from Virginia in 1839, and was incorporated in 1946. Riverview Boulevard, along the southeast side, carries the southern end of Route 367, which began as part of US 67.
