Michigan Avenue separates the Fruit Belt from the medical campus. High Street runs west to east through the middle and Jefferson Avenue north to south, the Kensington Expressway closes the eastern side, and the hospitals across Michigan are the reason most visitors are here at all. Downtown is a short way south-west.

What are the main landmarks in Fruit Belt?
The street names are the landmark. Cherry, Maple, Mulberry, Locust, Lemon, Orange, Peach and Grape were approved together by the Buffalo Common Council in June 1835, and the eight of them are what the neighbourhood is called after. The Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus lies across Michigan Avenue.

What is the history of Fruit Belt?
The lots went on sale in 1835. Investors from Albany and New York City offered them that September, three months after the council settled the fruit names, and the neighbourhood held together as one piece until the 1950s. The Kensington Expressway then cut it in half.
The nickname had reached print in August 1934, at a Mulberry Street carnival.
