What are the main landmarks in Bayside?
Water does the work in Bayside. There is no museum quarter and no monument list here: the draw is the shoreline along Little Neck Bay, with the Long Island Sound opening beyond it and Whitestone closing off the northwest side. Streets of free-standing houses fill the rest.
Anyone after galleries and set-piece architecture heads into the wider Queens or across into New York City proper, and Douglaston and Fresh Meadows sit at either end of the neighborhood.
What is the history of Bayside?
Queens kept no start date for Bayside. What the record holds instead is a shape: a stretch of Queens running from Fresh Meadows in the west to Douglaston in the east, with Whitestone at the northwest corner and the water at the northeast. Houses came detached here.
