McCarren Park draws the choice for most visitors, since the streets running off it toward Williamsburg keep the shortest walk to the Polish restaurants and markets that give the neighbourhood its Little Poland name. Hotel stock is limited. Quieter beds sit north toward the Newtown Creek Nature Walk, which edges the working waterfront.
Anyone here for the East River views should look to the blocks near Bushwick Inlet Park on the southwest side. Light sleepers should avoid the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway edge toward East Williamsburg.

What are the main landmarks in Greenpoint?
Museums here are small and specific. The Józef Piłsudski Institute of America carries its Polish name into the neighbourhood often called Little Poland, and the Museum of Food and Drink shares the same streets. Greenpoint Reformed Church stands nearby.
The Newtown Creek Nature Walk turns a working shoreline into something walkable, with Long Island City in Queens across the water.
What is the history of Greenpoint?
Polish arrivals shaped it. A large Polish immigrant and Polish-American community settled the streets here, filling them with restaurants, markets and businesses until the name Little Poland attached itself to the whole neighbourhood. Industry shaped the northern edge.
Newtown Creek separated Greenpoint from Long Island City and gave the neighbourhood its working waterfront, which the Newtown Creek Nature Walk later opened to walkers.
