Oakley keeps its hotels at one end and its walking at the other. The rooms are at the north end, beside Oakley Station, the retail quarter laid over the old machine-tool ground by the I-71 and Norwood Lateral interchange. The walking is south of it.
Madison Road runs past Oakley Square, the 20th Century Theater and Saint Cecilia Catholic Church, all within a few blocks of one another. It suits you if a quick exit onto the interstate matters more than stepping straight out onto the Square.

Oakley Square is the landmark of Oakley, a stretch of Madison Road with the park of Geier Esplanade at its middle and the shopfronts of the business district on either side. The 20th Century Theater stands at 3021 Madison Road. Saint Cecilia Catholic Church holds a corner a short way east along the same road, and the Oakley Branch Library sits behind it on Gilmore Avenue.
North of them the old machine-tool ground carries Oakley Station, where the screens of Cinemark Oakley Station sit among big-box retail. The edges are retail. Hyde Park Plaza closes the south end on Paxton Avenue and The Center of Cincinnati the north.
What is the history of Oakley?
Oakley began as Four Mile, a wagon stop on the Madisonville Turnpike four miles out from Cincinnati, where the Four Mile House opened in 1852. The Marietta and Cincinnati Railroad reached it in 1866, the name Oakley was registered in 1869, and the village incorporated in 1898. Horses paid for that growth.
The Oakley Park Race Track ran from 1889 until Ohio criminalized gambling in 1904. Machine tools followed: the Cincinnati Milling Machine Company bought land in the north of the village in 1907, and Cincinnati annexed Oakley in 1913. The works became Cincinnati Milacron in 1970 and closed in 2002; Oakley Station covers its ground.
