Prospect Hill runs up from Liberty Street between Sycamore Street and Highland Avenue, so the streets climb, some of them give out into flights of steps, and a few were drawn on paper and never built because the ground was too steep. Stone retaining walls carry the original iron fences. The brick houses are mostly Italianate of the eighteen-sixties and seventies, with bracketed cornices and arched windows, while the lower streets keep Greek Revival work from before that and a scattering of Queen Anne and Second Empire came later. Senator George H. Pendleton lived at 559 Liberty Hill.
Daniel Drake started in a log cabin.
What is the history of Prospect Hill Historic District?
Revolutionary War veterans settled the hill. Most who settled here first had served in that war, Daniel Drake lived here before moving down to Third Street, and the National Register listed the district on the fourth of September in 1980. Cincinnati made it a local landmark too.
