Queensgate holds warehouses rather than hotels, so nearly every visitor books a room in Downtown Cincinnati and crosses Interstate 75 by day. Rail arrivals are the exception. Cincinnati Union Terminal stands on Western Avenue at the northern end of the district, and its concourse opens straight into the Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal. Longworth Hall marks the far southern end, close to the Ohio River.
If you want the terminal first thing, take a bed on the western side of downtown.

The main landmarks in Queensgate line Western Avenue. Cincinnati Union Terminal opened in 1933, and its half-dome is faced with tile and lined by the mosaic murals of Winold Reiss. Behind that rotunda, the Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal occupies the concourses with the Cincinnati History Museum and the Duke Energy Children's Museum.
Longworth Hall runs along the riverfront, a brick freight house of 1904. The former Harriet Beecher Stowe School on Seventh Street, a Black junior high, houses the television studios called 19 Broadcast Plaza. Gest Street leads west into the yards.
What is the history of Queensgate?
Queensgate took its name in the late 1950s, when an industrial district was cut out of the Lower West End. Hog slaughtering on these flats earned Cincinnati the name Porkopolis in the early 19th century, and the packing houses worked the ground between Mill Creek and the river landing. The streets above them were residential and largely African American, known as Kenyon-Barr, until the Metropolitan Master Plan of 1948 marked them for clearance.
Demolition followed. Interstate 75 and the warehouses took the cleared ground, and in 2023 the Cincinnati city council issued a formal apology for the razing.
