Westwood sends its visitors back east for a bed. The neighborhood runs residential nearly end to end, long lines of frame and brick houses on Boudinot Avenue and Werk Road, and the shopfront row on Harrison Avenue works for the people living behind it. Rooms cluster in the Cincinnati core instead.
Queen City Avenue runs in from the west, so a stay in Downtown Cincinnati or Over-the-Rhine still leaves the old village crossing an easy drive. You want this side of the city for a house, a school, or the old parish core.

What are the main landmarks in Westwood?
The Westwood Town Center Historic District holds the old village crossing at the corner of Epworth Avenue and Harrison Avenue. Five buildings contribute, and the National Register took it in 1974. Samuel Hannaford is the listed architect.
His firm finished Westwood United Methodist Church in 1896 a block north at Urwiler Avenue, rough-faced ashlar under a steeple and a taller copper spire. Westwood Town Hall stands at the same crossing on Harrison Avenue, and the Catholic parish church of Saint Catharine of Siena keeps its own corner southeast on Fischer Place.
What is the history of Westwood?
Westwood was incorporated as a village on 14 September 1868 and annexed by Cincinnati on 8 May 1896. Farmland covered the hill first. A Methodist Episcopal congregation had formed out here in 1838 and met in members' houses until 1842, and the village schoolhouse of 1870 gave way in 1909 to the Westwood Elementary building drawn by Garber and Woodward.
The rural quiet drew money in the late nineteenth century, and Procter and Gamble co-founder James Gamble was among those who built on the hill. Werk Road carries Gamble Montessori High School, named for the founder's son.
