What is the history of Währing?
Währing took its modern shape in 1892, when the suburbs of Währing, Weinhaus, Gersthof, and Pötzleinsdorf were joined into a single district of Vienna. Its borders shifted once more. In 1938 the outlying villages of Neustift am Walde and Salmannsdorf were handed to neighbouring Döbling, trimming the district back toward the Vienna Woods it still meets.
